I just realised an interesting medical fact that you can actually ingest charcoal in order to treat poisoning and overdoses following oral ingestion. This really fascinated me (wow).
They called it activated charcoal, because it has increased surface area. Yes, when I mentioned 'charcoal', i really meant charcoal.
It is thought to bind to poison and prevent its absorption in the GI tract. Doctors administer them in an emergency department. It is so effective as is actually a sponge-like charcoal.
